Fall 2012

Fall 2012

During the past year and a half, our work and personal lives have taken us out of the country for long periods of time but now we have returned to the Boston area and set up in Somerville, MA, a community where the beneficial effect of artists living and working nearby is evident throughout the city. The Mayor is supportive and understands the value of creative engagement and the Somerville Council on the Arts, a city agency which receives funding from the State, has a small but effective grant program which feeds the cultural community here. There is an active theatre with both film and live entertainment in nearby Davis Square and restaurants and cafes have flourished there. Public art is everywhere, and transportation is plentiful. At the same time, Somerville is a city of working people and vibrant neighborhoods. It is a pleasure to be here.

In July we finished a stint with The Bostonian Society on the programming for the 300th Anniversary of the Old State House in 2013. The Old State House has always been a tourist destination but the upcoming 300th birthday provides an opportunity to bring Bostonians, new and old, inside this irreplaceable landmark and form closer relationships with them. Over a nine-month period, Mary worked with the Society on engaging with various nearby communities and stakeholders around possible ongoing programs and projects.

Now that we are settled and open for business, we are looking outward again for challenging work and/or projects.
