My name is Glenda and I am so excited to be joining the SFS Australia team as a Research and Program Assistant. Growing up in Singapore, an island city where rich biodiversity and vibrant multicultural life are deeply intertwined, I developed an early curiosity about the natural and human worlds around me. That intrigue took me across Southeast Asia on experiential learning trips, and into communities where I learnt about how people connect with the environment around them. Whether leading forest walks for children using Forest School principles, mentoring youth-led environmental initiatives across Southeast Asia, or supporting students in the classroom, my work has shown me that the best learning happens when you’re rooted in a place and in relationship with the people and nature around you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I hold a BA (Honours) in Environmental Studies from Yale-NUS College, a pioneering liberal arts college in Singapore, where place-based and experiential learning were at the heart of my education. My studies brought me to the highlands of the Philippines, the fishways of Sabah in Malaysia, and the agroforests of Northern Thailand. Each trip deepened how I think about land, people, and the stories that hold them together. I think of myself as a researcher-practioner who excavates local environmental histories, and my capstone project did just that: tracing the living heritage of a temple garden on Pulau Ubin through ethnography, photography, and the quiet wisdom of its caretakers. Outside of work, you’ll find me journalling, doing yoga, cooking, or singing! I’m looking forward to supporting students in their time here!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Hello!
